version 2
You only landed on this page because I:
grew up in the bronx
worked at my parent’s chinese take out starting @ the age of 8.
parents didn’t speak english so i chose the literal worst h.s in nyc for myself
got arrested for graffiti 2x in a week and was about to drop out
guidance counselor told me about an afterschool theater program
didn’t know wtf theater was, but knew i didn’t wanna drop out to work
auditions for this program and got accepted?!!!
realized i wasn’t as smart or artistic as the other kids so I got mad
so mad i started to read and write every day to catch up
started writing plays
didn’t end up dropping out, went to college, first to graduate in my family
did some fun and odd jobs: comedy barker, club promoter, bellman, private jets broker, etc etc.
kept writing in the meantime and won a handful of awards, fellowships, and residencies.
during covid, i wrote my first tv pilot and sold it to sony pictures later that year.
One day I met a guy on Reddit. He was a copywriter who wanted to write plays. I was a playwright who wanted to learn copywriting.
he told me to sally hogshead a brand. i wrote 1600 to get to 100. i was like woah, i like writing this much, this fast, this non-preciously.
I took a class at SVa and adhouse and started working on my portfolio
you have three options. either I: write ads for you, deliver chinese food to you, or do graffiti on your front door. kidding. i would never deliver food again.
